Jan
Simon
got her first job in radio at a little 250-watt station while
still in high school. For more than 25 years she's hosted
classical, jazz and popular music shows and also worked as
a news anchor and reporter. Los Angeles listeners first heard
Jan in 1987 on KFAC, and since 1989 she's "found a home" on
KMOZART.
As far
as classical music goes, Jan feels many people are afraid
of what they think they don't know. "My job is to cut through
the mystique and draw out the purely human element of people
who just happened to be musical geniuses. Haydn was a hen-pecked
husband. Schubert was shy and couldn't get dates. Rossini
gave up composing to become a gourmet cook. People like to
know these things!"
Jan hosts
the midday music each day on KMOZART.
